We were having a grand time and by about the 14th hole, it was raining for real, but it was nowhere near unplayable. The facilities on site are miniscule, with the pro shop being no more than 300 or so square feet and the locker room containing a small number of wooden boxes, each carrying two or three names of business tycoons, celebrities or politicans. The par 5s are among, if not the best in the world. As for the infamous par-3 16th, listed at 233 yards, its tee could be moved back up a hill to 260 yards, or even the 280-yard range. MacKenzie never believed much in three-shot par 5s, so if the 491-yard par-5 fifth is just a driver and 8-iron to many, well, both shots must still avoid acres and acres of sand bunkers splattered across the rolling fairway.
