I have bought this perfume many times in the past and it smelled good.
I connect the smell with an older woman (I dont mean that in a negative way!) By the way,i would love to know how real musk smells. I find that when I'm recovering from a cold and I can't stand most of my usual perfumes because my nose turns them all harsh and screechy, I can still wear Lovely. I loved the juxtaposition of a fruity floral superimposed on a soft amber- vanilla richness. Seasonally, Lovely would work in any climate. I also received a large sample body cream as well. Upon the first sniff of Lovely, I immediately get a strong musk note, that is paired with lavender. It seems like a lot of these contemp. Which one do you prefer? The fruity note of apple sweetens the composition without lending a cloying touch. I guess Im an animalic-chypre type, although Diorella really rocks my boat as well. I agree that this perfume is not the same as it used to be. Narciso Rodriguez for Her and Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely are two examples of the classification that would consider them as floral oriental compositions with chypre accords and they are often compared. Seems like the most logical explanation. The resounding impression of this fragrance is that is similar to For Her by Narciso Rodriguez. I imagine that you could over spray this, but the sillage isnt going to take over a room, with normal application.
The group has been out of fashion for a long time and I wonder if the majority of consumers (especially those Lovely is targetting) might be attracted to the classical chypre. Ralph Lauren Pure Turquoise, Lulu Guiness Cast a Spell, Dior Miss Dior Cherie, Chanel Chance, Coco Mademoiselle EDT are the examples of the fragrances released in the past couple of years and classified as posssessing chypre accords. cent to something I don't like, and it does not have the staying power it used to.
Youre going to have to enjoy musky floral perfumes, otherwise, you may not like this at all. I ended up giving it away as I felt that it just didn't work for me. Id still probably go with any fragrance, that would be more suitable, however. But for the first couple of hours, all I get is "feminine hygiene product" floral. The musk oil (I tried the one in the big balck square bottle) is a very subtle musk with nothing else.
I tried this on at Chemist Warehouse and forgot about it. The inexpensive price, is one of the main strengths of this scent, along with its aroma, and versatility. Like you, I find it reminiscent of something very comforting. It is SO diluted the smell didnt even stay on the body for more then 20mins and it suppose to be perfume. The very definition of the chypre seems to be changing, with the emphasis made on the transparent and fruity notes combined with the chypre facets, and many fragrances classified as chypre these days do not even seem to be related to the classical chypre accords. Staying at home doesnt have to be a drag, even if youre isolating.
