RPMs at idle are around 1250-1300 but if I rev it and let the RPMs drop back down it will either stop around 1250-1300 or it will just shut off. Also thestator coilmaybe do an ohms test as well look at the secondary ignition coil. That would be throttle safety switch. Try to separate the wires and see if that clears things up. sounds to me like a badly adjusted carb. The back fire and puff of smoke out of the carb all though sounds like a timing thing but I guess it cant hurt to have a look at the top end to make sure its all proper and valves are opening and closing the right way. Its like finding a hidden door! Did you check the gap on the pick up coil ? For giggles I took it out and plugged it into another machine and read the voltage and it was showing .45v. While is backfiring etc separate the contacts on the throttle control and see if it clears. He said it had something to do with CA laws. According to the manual it says that it should be about .46v +- .003 and mine is running at .38. Tom Walters, ^^^ yeas, check that TSS on the throttle. I remember a similar topic on this and it turned out to be a pick up coil that was the problem. If so open it up and you will findthe rev limiter.

Copyright 2022 QUADCRAZY I have replaced the spark plug, fuel pump (28-32PSI was the reason), cleaned out the exhaust for carbon build up (which there was none), replaced the battery, etc. So on this ATV the batteries keep dying to the point it won't start I'm on my 2nd battery this week it took me until this one to figure out that my ATV isn't charging it's on 12.75 volts when sitting in the ATV and it doesn't go up when being revved what are the chances it could be the rectifier/regulator vs the stator or CDI. I would not be surprised if its the same thing. I read that you gavethe cranking voltages on the first post.
